In our case, we'll discuss StarWind VSAN options. As you know, StarWind uses RAM as a write buffer and L1 cache to absorb writes, while SSD flash memory is used as an L2 cache. StarWind has L1 and L2 caches using the same algorithms (shared library). As such, most of the notes apply to both types of caches, but there are still some differences in their work. When the cache is full, the algorithm must be chosen in order to discard (delete) old items in the cache in order to accommodate new ones. StarWind proceeds that via the Least Recently Used (LRU) algorithm.
